A. Yes, we provide both.
A. In the kitchen you will find a bottle of washing up liquid, a bottle of all-purpose cleaner and dishwasher tablets. Plus some tea towels and oven gloves. All the bins have a bag in them, and there's a loo-roll and some loo-cleaner in the bathrooms.
A. Yes. It's been a bit iffy this year (2011) but hopefully I've got it sorted out. There is always access from the wireless access-point in the office as a backup.
A. Yes, by prior arrangement. Anything with humps or a trunk is out of the question.
A. These are provided in all the cottages. There is also a hairdryer and a clock/radio.
A. The Stoke Canon Inn has reopened as a village co-operative. This is in the village just under a mile away. They're doing basic pub food and decent beer. There are plenty of other pubs within a short drive with more extensive menus.
A. Yes. We use a heat exchanger which runs continuously. The target temperature is 27 degrees celsius. As it's an outdoor pool the effect of rain (which is always cold) and poor weather is something we can't do much about, but the heater keeps chugging away regardless. The pool is covered at night to keep the heat in.
The water is tested daily, and chlorinated accordingly. I try not to over-chlorinate to avoid stinging-eyes and the smell, but the level will be within safety limits. A pump circulates the water through a sand filter continuously. The filter is cleaned at least once a week and when the pool is used a lot usually twice a week.
A. Yes, all the cottages have a DVD. We have just finished replacing all the TVs with 26" LCD flatscreens.
A. Officially 3 pm. If you get here sooner don't feel you have to drive around for hours - your cottage may be ready early. Naturally we are pretty busy on change-over day but you can always sit by the pool or in the games room for a bit.
Checkout is 10 am. This is pretty crucial to us on changeover day as we need to get started as soon as possible to get the cottages ready for the arriving guests.
A. We take an electricity deposit of £30 in the spring/summer and £50 in the autumn/winter. We only charge for electricity used in the cottage, and we refund the balance. We don't make a profit on this - we charge only what our supplier charges us. As energy prices are so high, and as we have no control over how much is used, we think that this is the fairest way of dealing with the cost. That way if someone uses a lot of heating, for example, they aren't being subsidised by others who don't use so much.
A. No. Our fields are under cultivation, but not by us. We have ponies, alpacas and chickens. Bussells is completely surrounded by farmland.
